Jesus Renews, Restores, and Resets
Pastor Tim | Jesus Renews, Restores, and Resets | John 21:1-19
Because of Jesus’ work on the cross and His resurrection, connection with God can be re-established and made new.
John said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Peter put on his outer garment, and jumped in the water. In first century Jewish culture, when you were going to meet a superior - a rabbi for example - you would put on your outer garment in recognition that you are going into the presence of a superior.
Jesus hosts a meal on the beach. Jesus is once again serving His disciples. This is stunning. Jesus is preparing breakfast for a group He knew and loved, who had all abandoned him and fled in His greatest hour of need. Jesus was willing to continue to pursue them.
God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance - Romans 2:4. He has continued resolve to pursue us.
Jesus is not interrogating Peter in verses 15-16. This is not a punitive conversation. Jesus is being redemptive and restorative in Peter’s life. The heart is the wellspring of life. The center of our being, our thoughts, our affections, our volition. His aim is always redemptive.
Jesus renews, restores, and resets the lives of those who trust Him and turn from personal sin and failure.
