This is our final week of youth group. It is hard to believe and it always seems to sneak up on us. This week we will provide some treats and snacks and aim to have a fun time with students. However, we also want our older students to have the opportunity to speak into our younger students. Seniors will share in senior high and 8th graders in junior high. We want to ask each of them to share something they believe is important advice about youth group. Some will share something silly and others will be serious, but we have learned that a good challenge from a trusted peer can go a long way. So, we gladly open up the opportunity and invite students to share their learned wisdom. It is a fitting way to end the year because our teaching time will be on “God Honoring Community.” Which means our emphasis is the value of have strong believers around you who are focused on what God wants. The bible has much to say about community and the value of having others next to you who are focused on God. It is where accountability and positive challenge speak to the heart, believe that God will bring transformation. Strong Christian community’s have the potential to keep you focused where you should be, celebrate with you, mourn with you, and stick by your side through the most adverse situations. There is a reason we are called to come together to worship regularly. Its because “iron sharpens iron” and God is present where two or three are gathered together. There is no community like a strong Christian community. But we have to intentionally connect, build up, and participate if we are to enjoy real community.
Each summer we take a group of students our to Trail’s End Ranch in Ekalaka, Montana. This is a summer bible camp that is packed with fun activity and adventure. Students will have the opportunity to sign up for all kinds of activities like paintball, high adventure, outdoor life, crafts, sports, and more. They will be put on teams for the week and compete to win ice cream Sundays by playing games, memorizing and reading scripture. They will spend daily time with God each morning and have great teaching to challenge their faith. This year we are going to camp from June 18-25. The cost is $150 per person (If you need assistance please let us know), and you should plan for your student to pay for 4 meals along the way (Fast food), and we recommend some additional money for the Snack Shack. You can register here.
Each year we celebrate our graduates during a Sunday morning service. This year we will have Graduation Sunday on June 12 and would love to have you join us! For those of you who have graduating students, could you please send a senior picture and a statement about their future plans to firstname.lastname@example.org. We are so proud of the young men and women they are becoming and we want to celebrate and encourage them as they make the transition out of high school. I hope you will be there to join us!
Each summer we change up the pace in how we aim to reach students. Our primary program is “Summer Oasis.” This is an event that will be held at different people’s houses from the church. The goal is to get students connected to adults in the church and to provide a community atmosphere that isn’t intimidating to the unbelieving student. Our hope is to see several new kids come throughout the summer months. Not feeling the spiritual and cultural pressure of being at church and stepping into a worship setting, Summer Oasis allows us to connect with these new students in a non-threatening way. As we build relationship, we hope to help them naturally assimilate into our community as we get closer to youth group in the fall. Our schedule will be published and sent to you soon!
