Section Title

Hello Parents,

Prayer is the most effective form of ministry for any believer. It is the opportunity to come before God on His throne and interact with Him on a personal level. Prayer changes the heart of the one praying by revealing the plans of the Father. It encourages, builds up, and strengthens the weary. It emboldens believers for the sake of the gospel. It leads us to sense the presence of the Lord and carry out the promptings He lays on our heart. Overall, prayer is a big deal. Last week we had a night of prayer and worship. We were so encouraged by how many students willingly stepped out of their comfort zone to pray in front of each other and over a variety of topics. It is our desire to continue to help foster and develop strong prayer lives in our students.

This week we will be introducing students to the A.C.T.S. prayer. This is an acronym to help format/give structure to our prayer life. There are so many times when we come before God with a few requests and pretty soon our prayer life is only requests. Or we set a goal to spend more time in prayer but don’t really know what to pray about. This will give us a structure that we can always add to in our time with the Lord. The structure allows for shorter and longer times of prayer. Our hope, is to help students enter into deeper times of prayer through a structure that is designed to honor and recognize God first. The acronym is Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

Adoration is taking time to praise God for who He is, praising Him for being perfect in justice or being the all-powerful God that is greater than any other. It is being intentional about celebrating the amazing attributes of God. Confession is spending time admitting to our areas of sin and weakness. Admitting where we know we have fallen short and continue to be tempted. Asking God for forgiveness and strength as we move forward. Thanksgiving is simply thanking God for the many blessings in our lives. Thanking Him for sending His son, for giving me a loving family, or good friends that I can trust. It is thanking God in recognition that He is the giver of all things good and our blessings are from Him. Finally, Supplication. This is the time to make our requests known to God. Praying for God to enter into whatever situations we are facing or aware of that need prayer. We do not believe this to be a wholistic structure of prayer and that there are more ways for us to pray. However, this is a great place for us to build a foundation of what prayer should look like.

Questions for your students

This week we want to encourage you to pick time and a day to sit and pray the A.C.T.S. prayer with your student(s). We believe that you can not only help model it but also find it useful for your own life. If you need help praying any of the four elements of the prayer you can also use scripture to help guide you. Pray each of these passages back to God.

Adoration – Psalm 33:1-12

Confession – Psalm 32:5-7

Thanksgiving – 1 Chronicles 16:34-36

Supplication - Philippians 4:4-7

Looking FOrward:

This year we are taking Junior High Students to Snow Camp at Camp Forest Springs, February 18-20. Please call the church office to sign up as online registration has closed. The cost is $115 per person. However, if money is an issue we want to encourage you to reach out. We have a scholarship fund to help students go to these types of events because we believe that God meets kids at camp and money is not a reason someone should be left behind. Travel details can be found online. Travel details can be found online under our student ministries page. Please reach out to Jordan if you have any questions..
