Our goal is to help people understand what the Bible teaches about baptism so they can participate in this ceremony and make a public testimony of their new life in Christ.  With that in mind, take your time to think through the Scriptures below and your responses to the questions on the application.  As always, feel free to contact the church office (428-1331) if you have any questions.

Some questions to consider . . .

Why do we practice baptism of believers?
  1. Because Christ commands it.  Matt. 28:19-20
  2. Baptism gives a public testimony of my faith in Jesus Christ.  Acts 18:8

What is the meaning of baptism?
  1. It illustrates Christ’s Death, Burial and Resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:3-4
  2. It illustrates one’s New Life as a Christian. Colossians 2:12
  3. Baptism doesn’t make you a “believer” — it shows that you already believe.  Acts 10:47-48
  4. Baptism does not “save” you, only God’s grace through faith in Christ saves. Ephesians 2:8-9

Why be baptized by immersion?
Immersion gives weight and value to the symbolism of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection! The examples in Scripture strongly imply immersion rather than any other mode:
  1. Jesus was baptized that way. Matthew 3:16
  2. Every example of a baptism in the New Testament was by immersion.  Acts 8:38-39
  3. The word “Baptize” implies immersion into water. (The NT Greek word baptidzo means “to immerse or dip”)
  4. Baptism by immersion best symbolizes our death to sin and our old life, and our resurrection with Christ to new life!  Romans 6:4

Who should be baptized?
Every person who has committed to follow Christ by faith.
“Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized...”  Acts 2:41
“But when they believed Philip as he preached the Good News...and the name
of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”  Acts 8:12

How does water baptism testify to my new life in Christ?
